Case study

Restoration of a Porsche 356 Pre-A Continental

"

Porsche 356 Continental Coupe

The name Continental was used for a very short time for vehicles sold in the USA during 1955, when Max Hoffman's dealership in New York came up with this designation. Unfortunately, this name was already patented by another car manufacturer, so he had to abandon it very quickly. Therefore, the name Continental was only used for a very short period of time, and we were lucky enough to restore the glory of this beauty.

Body preparation

After all mechanical components were completely dismantled, the vehicle underwent manual preparation of the body, which was then sandblasted and thus prepared for the start of metal work.

Restoration procedure

1

Car dismantling and sandblasting

The vehicle is at the starting line of restoration; only now can the repairs begin.

2

Metal work

Remove all corrosion, repair damaged parts of the body, thoroughly inspect all areas. Here you can see the air intake pipe, which is hidden inside the vehicle sill.

3

Metalwork on the interior of the vehicle

4

Completion of metal work

After completing the rough metalwork, the chrome parts, doors, bumpers, and final tinning are completely assembled and fitted before the car is painted.

5

Painting – preparation

Gradual preparation of the car body to perfection before painting

6

Paint work

Once the preparations are complete, the body is painted. All that remains now is to sand and polish the paintwork, and then it can go to the mechanical work for final assembly of the vehicle.

7

Vehicle assembly

The pre-prepared parts can finally be fitted to the vehicle after painting.

8

Vehicle assembly – parts

Every detail must be perfect, all rubber elements must be new, chrome parts must be refurbished, aluminum elements must be polished to a mirror finish, every screw and every head must be perfect.

Result

After months of meticulous work, the 1955 Porsche 356 Pre-A Coupé is once again in a condition that matches its original appearance. The car has been restorated with the utmost emphasis on authenticity and period design. The engine runs smoothly and reliably, the body has perfect lines, and the interior faithfully reflects the atmosphere of the early 1950s.
