Restoration of a Porsche 356 1500 Reutter Coupé (Pre-A)

"

The embodiment of the brand's beginnings, the 1955 Porsche 356 Pre-A.

This lightweight, mechanically proper, and timelessly designed car, which is now one of the most sought-after collector's items ever, needed to be restored to its original beauty.

Initial condition of the car

The car was in a condition corresponding to a long absence of regular servicing. The body showed visible signs of wear and tear and corrosion in places, and some parts required repair or replacement. Despite these shortcomings, the car was functional, roadworthy, and complete, which provided a good starting point for subsequent restoration.

Restoration plan

1

Vehicle dismantling

Complete disassembly of all parts for detailed inspection and repair planning.

2

Metal work

As part of the metalwork repairs, all corrosion was thoroughly removed and damaged parts of the body were repaired or replaced. The repaired areas were sanded down and the individual parts were carefully fitted together. The body was then ready for the next step, i.e. final preparation before painting the vehicle.

3

Paint work

Careful preparation for painting the body, including the assembly of all visible and chrome parts.

4

Preparation of mechanical components

Complete restoration of the engine, transmission, differential, chassis parts, and other mechanical elements so that the components are ready for final assembly.

5

Interior restoration

Restoration of leather upholstery, repair or replacement of electronics, cleaning and polishing of all interior elements.

6

Final vehicle assembly

The goal is absolute precision in every detail. All rubber parts are replaced with new ones, chrome parts are given a completely new finish, and aluminum components are polished to a high shine. Attention is paid to even the smallest elements—every fastener, every screw head must look perfect and match the overall level of the restoration.

7

Final vehicle assembly

In the final stage, all prepared parts are assembled into the vehicle with the cooperation of mechanics and upholsterers. After final assembly, the functionality and fit of all parts are checked.

Result

The restoration of the Porsche 356 Pre-A was not just a repair job – it was a return to its roots. Every step was carried out with an emphasis on detail, historical accuracy, and quality workmanship. The entire car underwent a careful and sensitive restoration with respect for its original character.

The result is a car that feels just like it did when it was first unveiled—pure, authentic, and exceptional.
